week 8 assignment Individualized and Small Group Instruction with Support of Tutors

After reading this chapter, I realize the importance of the application of surrounding resources. It's really a good idea having college students who are in teaching programs in a classroom to assist the students with special tutoring for their literacy development and second language acquisition.

Personally, I prefer "Reformulation Strategy" in my class. Of course, this approach needs consideration of students' age, level of language, but in a long run, it can help students improve their writing and language development a lot. As an English learner, I identify the difficulty in writing. Mentioned in the book, it's hard for a second language learner with the insufficient capability to differentiate the formal and informal writing. Most of the time,  learners pay attention to express themselves and have the impact by their first language inadvertently. Besides, the reasons I prefer this approach are 1)students can still have their ownership of works; 2) students can discuss with others to form a self-check mechanism potentially; 3) teachers can observe the reactions of students to analyze the problems. Among the procedure, I learn that the rubrics and discussions play crucial roles in this strategy and both tutors and students should have a clear definition/ expectation of tutoring activities to operate this mean properly.
